Eleanor F. Castle, 71, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 22, at United Methodist Church in Somers, with Pastor Crystal Oberheu and Pastor Greg Boyle officiating. Burial will be in Reading Township Cemetery in Farnhamville.

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, at Palmer Funeral Home in Gowrie.

Eleanor F. McAdam was born Aug. 21, 1937, at Butler, Mo. She graduated from Iowa City High School in 1953 and also attended the University of Iowa. She married Don Castle on June 9, 1957. They lived in Iowa City, San Bernardino, Calif., Rochester, N.Y., Twin Cities, Minn., Cedar Rapids, Colorado Springs, Colo., Farmington, N.M., Coppell, Texas, and moved to Ames in 2008. She enjoyed traveling, the mountains, the beach, professional sports, especially the Dallas Stars hockey team and was an Iowa Hawkeye fan.

She is survived by four children, Kathy Swanson and her husband, Mark, of Ames, Kevin Castle and his wife, Tanya, of Fort Collins, Colo., Sarah Zimmerman and her husband, Eric, of Plano, Texas, and John Castle, of McKinney, Texas; six grandchildren, Carly (Swanson) Shumaker and her husband, Robert, Amy Swanson, Christian and Joshua Zimmerman, and Quinn and Galen Burrell; her mother, Katherine McAdam, of Ames; one sister, Esther Martin, of Decatur, Ga.; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don Castle; her father, John McAdam; and brother, Loren McAdam.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family
