WIFE OF FARM BUREAU PIONEER DEAD AT 85
MAXWELL - Mrs. Asa Turner, 85, aunt of Mrs. A. T. Erwin of Ames, died at her home here Saturday morning of old age.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 Sunday afternoon here with Dr. Nutt, Methodist pastor, of Des Moines, in charge.
Mrs. Turner's husband died in 1922. There were no children. Mr. Turner, who was known all over the state as "Uncle Asa," was one of the charter members of the Iowa Corn Growers association and active in starting the Farm Bureau movement. He was also a regular attendant at all the Iowa State college short courses.
Asa Turner the first was a member of the "Iowa" which came west from Yale university in the early '60's and started the Denmark academy which later became Grinnell college. He also established the first church in Iowa.
