Kenneth Harlan Carroll, 74, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at his rural Collins home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Collins Methodist Church, with Pastor Lewis Flanigan officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Collins.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, at Chet Ryan Mortuary, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada. A Masonic service will be at 8 p.m.
Kenny was born Sept. 30, 1933, in Nevada, to Kenneth and Rosa Marie (Mansfield) Carroll. He was a 1951 graduate of Collins High School. He married Barbara Ann Kimberley June 2, 1951. She preceded him in death on Sept. 24, 1983. He married Alice Jane Martin (King) July 24, 1987, in Nevada. He was a lifelong resident of Story County, purchasing and operating a farm east of Collins in 1960 and was there until his death. He was also employed at Pirelli-Armstrong Tire for 33 years. He was a member of Collins Methodist Church and past master of the Fervent Masonic Lodge 513. His biggest joy was watching and attending the activities and athletics of his children and later his grandchildren. He and Alice enjoyed wintering in Fort Myers Beach, Fla.
He is survived by his wife, Alice, of rural Collins; two sons, Kenneth Stanton (Karen) Carroll, of Colo, and Steven Douglas (Rita) Carroll, of Altoona; three daughters, Linda Christine (Gary) McVey, of Littleton, Colo., Cathy Jo Oerter, of Fort Myers Beach, Fla., and Debora Ann (Gregory) Rhoads, of Colo; eight grandchildren, Ryan Carroll, Eric Carroll, Megan (Carroll) Guthrie, Natalie (Rhoads) Norrell, Justin Rhoads, Kimberley McVey, Catherine Rose Carroll, and Melissa Sue Carroll; five great-grandchildren; three stepsons, Mike (Deanna) Martin, of Great Falls, Mont., John (Stephanie) Martin, of Chandler, Ariz., and Bob Martin, of Ames; one stepdaughter, Mary Alice (Martin) Reidy, of Contoocook, N.H.; 10 step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Katherine Huebner, of Littleton, Colo., and Phyllis Maxwell, of Maxwell.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara, on Sept. 24, 1983; two sisters, Hazel Gowdy and Margaret Lackey; one son-in-law, Al Oerter, on Oct. 1, 2007; and a step-grandson, Troy McVey.
A memorial fund has been established.
Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
