FERNALD WOMAN DIES, FUNERAL SUNDAY P.M.
FERNALD, Jan. 10, - Mrs. Bell Chitty Johnson, 65, died Thursday at her home in Fernald of cancer of the stomach. She had been ill for sometime.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the Lutheran church at Fernald and burial will be in the Johnson Grove cemetery It has not been decided who will conduct the services.
Mrs. Johnson was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. VS. C. Murphy, pioneer residents of the Fernald community, and was born on the old Murphy homestead near Fernald on March 19. 1864. She was baptized in the Lutheran church of Fernald on March 24. 1883 and has been an active member of the church since. Mrs. Johnson was a charter member of the Ladies' Aid society and served as treasurer for many years.
On July 29, 1893, the was married to James C. Chitty of Fernald, who died March 7, 1908. Six children were born to the union, four of whom are still living. A daughter, Ruby, died May 20, 1920 and one child died in infancy. The children surviving are: Fred, Lester and Ray of Fernald and Harry of State Center.
On Sept. 7, 1927 Mrs. Chitty was married to Will Johnson of Ames. Mr. Johnson survives.
