A Keagle Memorial gathering was held Sunday, July 20, at Kiwanis Park in Marshalltown to celebrate the life of Walter S. Keagle. Walter was the last remaining sibling of the 11 brothers and sisters, children of Anna Laura and George H. Keagle of Collins, Iowa.

Walter graduated from Collins High School in 1928, and later served in the U.S. Army in France during World War II. He and his wife, Helen (Thompson, of Cambridge), had 2 children, Jackie Halterman of Omaha, NE and George Keagle of Des Moines. Helen died in April, 1996.

Walter, or "Walt" was well known in and around Collins as its Postmaster for 30 years prior to his retirement. He also was active in the Collins American Legion and the Masonic Lodge.

Besides his children, Walter leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-greatgrandchildren.
