Peter D. Carper, 61, of Bethany Manor in Story City and formerly of Cedar Rapids and Ames, died Tuesday, July 29, 2008, at Bethany Manor, after a short illness. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, where friends may register after 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.

Memorial services will also be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Ames.

Peter D. Carper was born July 2, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Berniece Douglas Carper. At the age of 9 months, Peter entered Woodward School, received his education and resided there until the age of 19. He lived the rest of his life in Story County. He did various jobs ranging from kitchen help to filling vending machines. He was loved by many and never met a stranger. He enjoyed watching John Wayne and Elvis Presley movies, attending church at Memorial Lutheran Church, attending One Heart Horse Therapy in Nevada and competing in the Special Olympics.

He is survived by numerous cousins, many friends and his guardians, John and Penny Wierson, of Nevada.
