(Contributed.)
Robert N. Dodds was born June 11, 1840, in Westmoreland county, Pa. and died in Ames, Ia., March 11, 1920, lacking only three months of being 80 years old.
He removed with his parents to Monroe county, Ohio, when 5 years of age. Here he resided until about 20 years of age when he made his home with a brother living in Boone county, Iowa.
In the year 1861 Mr. Dodds went to Idaho, making the trip in a wagon. After spending about two years mining he returned to Iowa, this time locating in Story county.
Mr. Dodds and Miss Lydia Hughes were united in marriage May 30, 1868. They moved to their farm seven miles northeast of Ames. To this union nine children were born, six sons and three daughters, all of whom survive him except Mrs. Hunter, a daughter. There also survive twenty-two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
In 1905 Mr. and Mrs. Dodds came to Ames, and after a period of five years they moved to Beuna Vista county where three and one-half years were spent. In 1913 they returned to Ames.
Early in the year of 1893, Mr Dodds united with the Methodist Episcopal church, of which he was a regular attendant until declining health prevented. He was held in the highest respect and appreciation by all who knew him. The members of his immediate family, together with numbers of friends, are assured the sympathy of us all in this hour of their sorrow.---from the Ames Tribune 3/15/1920
