Warren C. Ashby, 91, died Monday, Aug. 26.
He was born Oct. 3, 1910, in Springfield, Ill. He grew up in Des Moines and graduated from North High School. On Aug. 28, 1938, he married Lois Pincombe of Nevada. He was a World War II Air Force veteran, having served from 1942 to 1946. He and his wife were owners of Hicks-Ashby Co. Inc. (a school supply business) in Kansas City, Mo. They retired to John Knox Village in 1980, where he was active in John Knox Lions Club, Lee's Summit United Methodist Church and several community advisory committees. He loved to golf and read in his leisure time. He spent many an evening on the back porch listening to Royals baseball and smoking his pipe. He will always be remembered as Uncle Warren, a funny, kind-hearted person.
Survivors include his wife, Lois, of 64 years; a sister, Lorraine Renner of Johnston; a sister-in-law, Henrietta Huhn of Nevada; a niece, Sue (and Bill) Atkinson and their family, of Nevada; and several other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.
Memorial services were held Saturday, Aug. 31, at John Knox Village Chapel in Lee's Summit, Mo. Interment of the cremains will be held at a later date in the Nevada Cemetery.
