Ronald L. Anderson, 75, of Nevada, died of Progressive Supra Nuclear Palsy (PSP) on Friday, Nov. 15, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
He was born on Oct. 9, 1927, in Tama to Henry and Gladys (Strong) Anderson. He was a 1945 graduate of Tama High School and was a sargeant in the U.S. Army. He married Marilyn Bent on June 26, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Tama. He retired in 1984 as the Commercial Manager for Iowa Electric Light and Power. He served as Mayor of Nevada from 1986 to 1990. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the William F. Ball American Legion Post No. 48 and the Veterans of Foreign War No. 2209, both in Nevada, and past member of the Rotary Club and Lions Club. Ron enjoyed sports, camping, playing cards and being with family. He had been a resident of Nevada for the past 34 years.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Anderson of Nevada; three sons, Douglas Anderson, John (and Michelle) Anderson, and Joe Anderson (and fiancee Cindy Cary), all of Nevada; five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; two brothers, Joe Anderson of Marshalltown and Larry Anderson of Tama; and a sister, Audrey Blocker of Tama.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Raymond, Henry Jr.; and infant Robert; and a sister, Dorothy Graham.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 19, at First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. Military graveside rites were held at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama. A memorial fund has been established. Chet Ryan Mortuary, Nevada, handled arrangements.
