THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, July 10, 2008.
John W. Pinkerton, 70, longtime Ames resident, died Tuesday, July 8, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A gathering of friends will be from 4:30 until a 5:30 p.m. celebration of life service Sunday, July 13, at Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames.
John was born Sept. 27, 1937, in Monmouth, Ill., the son of John C. and Florence Thompson Pinkerton. He graduated from Aledo High School. He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Iowa State University. He then earned a master of engineering degree at University of Illinois. He married Vicci Young in 1961 in New Windsor, Ill.
He was active in Collegiate Presbyterian Church in various aspects. He held many positions in engineering at Sundstrand/Sauer-Danfoss and retired from the position of vice president global hydrostatics engineering in 2001 after 39 years.
He is survived by his wife, Vicci Pinkerton, of Ames; two sons and daughters-in-law, John and Vickie, of Canton Mich., and Mark and Marie, of Madison, Wis.; and two grandsons, Joseph and Gareth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Lundeen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Collegiate Presbyterian Church or Youth and Shelter Services of Ames.
