THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, June 20, 2008.
Dale E. Ewing, 89, of Ames, died on his birthday, Thursday, June 19, at Green Hills Healthcare Center in Ames. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, at United Church of Christ in Jewell. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. A memorial fund has been established for Green Hills Healthcare Center in Ames.
Dale was born June 19, 1919, in Stanhope to William and Eva (Erb) Ewing. He graduated from Stanhope High School in 1936. He married Margaret M. Flynn Dec. 11, 1944. They lived and farmed in Stanhope for seven years. Following a serious accident, he was unable to continue farming, and he began selling seed, an occupation he continued to engage in until the age of 80. He developed a number of seed blends, which he marketed under his own brand names and was a master seedsman for more than 50 years. He worked for Kruger Seed Company for many years until he started NuSoy Seeds, his own brand. He was a member of the Federated United Church of Christ in Jewell. He was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Margaret, of Ames; two sons, Dennis (Darcy), of Ames, and Randy (Denise), of Lincoln, Neb.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. His greatest joy was his family.
He was preceded in death by his father, William, and his mother, Eva, as well as his two brothers, Howard and Darrell.
