Lyle Vandecar, 97, of Ames, died Tuesday, June 10, at Northcrest Retirement Community Healthcare Center

A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28, in the green room at Northcrest.

Lyle was born Dec. 12, 1910, in Mondamin, to William and Lela (Stines) Vandecar. He graduated from Mondamin High School and attended the University of Iowa. He was a private in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Lyle was a supervisor in Food Services at the Iowa State University Memorial Union for 23 years, retiring in 1976.

He married Dorothy Mann, May 26, 1934, in Adel, and was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by sons Kirk, of Davenport, and Jim, of Charlottesville, Va.; and daughters, Jane Vandecar, of Dallas, Mary (John) Braybrooks, of Cobble Hill, British Columbia, Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; one sister; and three brothers.

Memorials may be directed to Northcrest.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
