Jeanette S. Peikert, 91, died April 4, 2002, in Bradenton, Florida. a memorial service was held Friday, April 12 at the Chapel of the Roser Memorial Community Church in Anna Marie Island, Florida. A further special service and interment
will be held for her in State College, Pennsylvania.
Jeanette was born Jan. 23, 1911, the daughter of George and Martha Sowers in Milford Township, Story County, Iowa. She graduated from Iowa State University. She married Frank W. Peikert on Dec. 25, 1935. She was a homemaker and formerly worked as an elementary school teacher and a substitute teacher in Pennsylvania for many years. Her husband was dean of agriculture at Penn State University. They lived in State College, Pennsylvania where they attended St. Paul's Methodist Church. She had been a winter resident of Holmes Beach, Florida until 1989 when she settled there permanently. She was a member of P.E.O., Chapter CC of Bradenton, Florida. She did volunteer work at the Anna Maria Island Elementary School for over 20 years. She volunteered at the Roser Guild Thrift Shop in Anna Maria Island and was a member of the Evening Garden Club there.
Survivors include one son, Frank Peikert and wife, Mary of Newport Beach, California; one daughter, Alice Kuhl and husband Bill of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews including Don Bielefeldt of Roland.
Preceding her in death were her parents, George and Martha Sowers; her husband Frank W. Peikert; one sister Dorothy Bielefeldt; and one brother Clare Sowers.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting memorial contributions be sent to: The Frank W. and Jeanette S. Peikert Scholarship in Agricultural Engineering, Penn State University, 1 Old Main, University Park, Pennsylvania 16802 in her name.
