Funeral services for Florence Matthews are Wednesday at 2 p.m.from the Presbyterian Church in McCallsburg. The Rev. Alvert Best will officiate with burial in the McCallsburg Cemetery.
Mrs. Matthews, 84, of McCallsburg died Saturday, Sept. 18 at Mary Greeley Hospital.
She was born Aug. 14, 1892 in Dunganon, North Ireland, Mrs. Matthews came to the United States as a young girl. She lived in Battlecreek, Iowa unil 1948 when she moved to McCallsburg.
Mrs. Matthews was on the McCallsburg City Council and was the town's first woman mayor. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Presbyterian Church.
She moved to North Grand Care Center four and one-half years ago.
Mrs. Matthews is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Lampe of Ames; a son, James Roberts of Davenport; three grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; on brother and one sister.
A memorial fund has been extablished. Gifts may be left with Elizabeth Lampe, 2125 Greeley.
Friends may call at Stevens Memorial Chapel Tuesday from 7-9 p.m.
