THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, June 3, 2008.

Betty LaVonne Smith, daughter of Russell and Pearl Rice Smith, was born March 6, 1926, in Clear Lake. She graduated from Ames High School in 1944. She married Carmi Neal Spicer on Dec. 24, 1944, in Ames. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1997. She died Saturday, May 312008. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 8, at Bickford Cottage in Ames.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Donald and Kenneth.

Sibling survivors are Whitney Smith, of Boulder, Colo.; Clarene Schupp, of MiWuk Village, Calif.; Liz Morris, of Sioux City; and sisters-in-law, Mary Smith and Barbara Tiffany, of Ames.

Children and spouses are Jerry and Lynette Spicer, of Ames, and Pamela and Mark Travis, of Maxwell.

Grandchildren are Sean and Darcy Travis, of Altoona, Deanne and Mark Sandbulte, of Waukee, Ryan and Anna Travis, of Collins, Foy Spicer and Jeff Diesburg, of Panama Province, Panama, Clarissa Spicer, of Baudette, Minn., and Carmi Nicholas Spicer, of Ames.

Six great-grandchildren.

Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
