Funeral services for Wilber Sowers were held Friday afternoon, Dec. 28, 1979, in Grace United Methodist Church, Story City, at 1:30 with Pastor D. H. O'Tool officiating. Soloists were Gary DeGeest and Rev. Richard Sansgaard. Mrs. Dorrel Doolittle was organist.
Casket bearers were Robert Nelson, Raymond Kammin, David Anderson, Hilford Olson, Millerd Lee and Rev. Paul Beckman. Honorary bearers were Robert Matheason, Marvin Peter, DeWayne Kammin, Myron Rod, Leonard Hermanson, Lester Carlson, John Davis, Bob Turner and Helge G. Johnson. Burial was in Center Cemetery, southwest of Story City.
Wilber Sowers, son of Albert and Maria Sowers, was born Aug. 17, 1900, on the home farm in Hamilton County, Iowa. On July 22, 1928, he was united in marriage to Eda Johnson. They farmed in Story and Boone counties until 1968 when they retired to Story City. He passed away Sunday, Dec. 23, 1979 at a hospital in Rochester, Minn.
Survivors include his wife, Eda; two daughters and one son: Beverly Anderson of East Lansing, Mich.; Ann Deaton of Fall Creek, Wis.; and Paul Sowers of St. Charles, Minn.; also ten grandchildren, one great grandchild; and one sister, Mrs. John L. (Grace) Anderson; and one brother, Clarence Sowers, both of Story City.
His parents, three brothers, and two sisters preceded him in death.---in three local papers
