February 7, 1925-May 29, 2008

Donald L. Ellsworth, 83, a longtime Ames resident, died May 29 at his home. A gathering of friends and Family will be from 4 to 6 p.m., Tuesday June 3 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way Ames.

Don was born Feb. 7, 1925, in Ames, the son of Edward and Gertrude (Perry) Ellsworth. He married Bernice Ball on July 20, 1962, in Ames. Don was employed by the city of Ames for over 50 years working as a heavy equipment operator in the street department. He enjoyed raising and training homing pigeons for several years, fishing, hunting, coffee at Hy-Vee in the morning, and Heartland Senior Services lunches and music jam sessions.

Don is survived by his wife, Bernice, of Ames; children, Leah (Larry) Sorenson, of Ames, Peggy Bryant, of Elizabethtown, Ky; Perry (Balinda) Ellsworth, of Ames, Jeff (Angi) Ellsworth, of Boone, eight grandchildren, Mark, Mike, and Matt Sorenson, of Ames, Mallory Norton, of Elizabethtown, Ky.; Shelbey and Devin Ellsworth, of Ames; and Dani and Emma Ellsworth, of Boone; brother, Edward Ellsworth, of New York; and sister Arlene Vaughn, of Grinnell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Children and Families of Iowa.

Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
