OBITUARY
SARAH COCHRAN HARDCASTLESarah Cochran was born in Marion county, Ohio, March 7 1838, and died in Ames, Iowa, Feb. 13, 1924, at the age of 85 years 11 months and 6 days.
At the age of 15 years she removed with her parents to Grant county, Indiana, and in 1859 was united in marriage with Casper Bradford. To this union five children were born: Isabella, now Mrs. Isabella Moses of Ames; Martha and Mary, the twins, died in infancy; Scott C. of Des Moines; and Margaret, now Mrs. W. R. Hardcastle of Ames. Mr. Bradford died May 3rd 1865.
In 1875 Mrs. Bradford came with her children to Iowa, and on Feb. 17, 1879 she was united in marriage with Thomas Hardcastle, They lived on a farm in Milford township in Story county until the fall of 1910 when they came to Ames. Mr. Hardcastle died in January 1919.
Mrs. Hardcastle was one of a family of 12 children, and is survived by only one of them, Mr. Elias Cochran of Denver, Colo.
During the years of her girlhood she united with the Methodist church. Her beautiful Christian character and life were expressed in unsparing devotion to her family and the work of the church in all its departments. She was a splendid example of Christian hospitality. It was her rich pleasure to do for other. She, like her Lord, "went about doing good." Like Him, she helped others carry their loads. This was because she permitted Him to help carry her heavy loads which she was called upon to bear as a home builder and pioneer.
Mrs. Hardcastle is survived by three children; nine grand children; 25 great grandchildren, only one having preceded her in death; one brother; a number of other immediate relatives; and a circle of friends including all who knew her.---from a local paper
