Ella M. Brown
Ella M. Vrown was born at Elmira, Monroe county, New York, August 11 1848; died at Ruthven, Iowa, March 1, 1918 - afed 69 years, 6 months and 17 days. At the age of eighteen, she moved with her parents to Ames, Story County, Iowa, where in September, 1870, she was united in marriage to John S. Hughes. They continued to live at Ames until the spring of 1883 when they moved to Wall Lake, Sac county, Iowa, where they resided two years, returning to Ames, until 1896,. From here they moved to Ruthven, living at that place until the spring of 1902, when they moved to Felton, Minnesota, returning to Ruthven in 1906.
Mrs. Hughes had been in poor health for a year past and about six weeks before her death, she contracted a cold which settled in her bronchial tubes, turning to pneumonia, from which she passed away at 2:30 last Friday morning at the home of her son, R. J. Hughes. The deceased leaves to mourn her death- four sons, R. James, Walter, George, and Clyde, seven grand children, two brothers, Horace Brown of Wilson, Wyoming and E. A. Brown of Boone, Iowa.
Funeral services were conducted from the Congregational church at Gilbert, Iowa, on Sunday afternoon, by Rev. Wissler and the body was laid to rest in the Pleasant Grove cemetery by the side of her husband.
