Arneth M. Gertsen, 85, of 2960 25th Ave, Marion, died Saturday, April 5, 2008, in St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2008 in Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Burial with military honors was held in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends could visit at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 8 and at the chapel after 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9.

Survivors include two sons, Steven of Cedar Rapids, and Kevin and wife Deb of Marion; three grandchildren, Lauren, Grant, and Jack; and a sister Betty Ray and husband Lloyd of Boone, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two brothers, Robert and Miller Gertsen.

Arneth was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Story City, Iowa to Hans and Cora Boe Gertsen. He married Ihlene Carpenter on Sept. 11, 1943 in San Diego, California. She died in 1995.

He was manager of Linn Co-Op Oil from 1971 to 1985. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion and a WW II US Marine Veteran. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed traveling, and especially spending time with his 'grandchildren.
Military honors were by VFW Post No 788.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Linn Mar Foundation.
