Morris "Morey" E. Elsner, 65, passed away June 21, 2007. He died of a heart attack at his home in Apache Junction, Arizona.
Morris Elsner was born Sept. 24, 1941 in Story City, Iowa to Ernest R. Elsner and Frances J. (Zavadil) Elsner.
He was raised on a farm west of Story City. He graduated from Story City High School in 1960. He was active in many sports and made some special lasting friends. Morris was in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War era.
A year after high school, he worked at the Iowa DOT as a crew chief for the soil boring division department for 13 years. Later, he worked for Ames High School and Meeker Elementary School in Ames for a total of 13 years. Morris was a handyman. He could fix about anything.
Morris married Yulla Sherman Jan. 20, 1984. They moved to Mesa, Arizona. He worked several years at Queen of Peace School and Catholic Church. Later, Morris and Yulla co-managed trailer parks in surrounding states, but he considered Arizona "home". He retired at the age of 62.
Morris was a NASCAR fan and a Minnesota Vikings fans. His hobby was riding motorcycles with his wife, Yulla. The family dog, Apricot, was a constant companion during his months of illness due to a form of Parkinson's disease.
He is survived by his dedicated wife, Yulla Elsner and son, Harlow Sherman of Apache Junction, Arizona; sons Richard (Carrie) Elsner of Jewell, Iowa and Michael (Suzanne) Elsner of Dodgeville, Wisconsin; brothers Lawrence (Janice) Elsner of Alliance, Nebraska and Paul (Rita) Elsner of Sacramento, Californial; and a sister, Helen (Ron) Gates of Story City; seven grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents.
His body was cremated with no service planned.
