THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, April 17, 2008.

Feb. 21, 1950-April 15, 2008.

Linda Shaffner, of Des Moines, unexpectedly went to be with her Lord Tuesday, April 15. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 18, at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. Private interment will be held at a later date.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at Iles Funeral Homes–Dunn's Chapel in Des Moines.

Linda Shaffner was born Feb. 21, 1950, in Marshalltown. She grew up on a farm, living in Story County most of her life. She was a registered nurse most of her adult life and touched so many residents with her fun, loving nature. She moved to Des Moines in 1995 when she and Rob were married. At times in her life, she taught Sunday school and loved it. She worked at Senior Suites in Urbandale lastly. The residents and staff there will miss her fun, loving nature.

She was so full of love and gave it out freely to everyone she met. She was a caring mother to her daughters, Lisa and Angie. They shared their emotions and life experiences often, as well as their laughter. Linda was so young looking and vibrant, people often thought she was a sister to her daughters, instead of their mother.

Her grandchildren meant the world to her. Playing with Michaela, Alex, Austin and Kyle kept her feeling young and happy. She especially enjoyed Halloween, when she dressed up and went trick-or-treating with her grandchildren.

Her husband, Rob was her best friend, along with LaLonnie Scheer and her cocker spaniel, Charlie. Linda and Rob had many fantastic times kayaking and walking through the woods with Charlie. Rob cherished every minute he spent with his beautiful, kind, loving wife.

Linda's lifelong best friend was LaLonnie Scheer. When they got together, they laughed harder than any two people could. They even dressed up on Halloween as adults! She loved to garden and nurture a plant or flower back to good health.

She is survived by her mother, Della Fisher; her husband, Rob; daughters, Lisa (Brian) Skartvedt and Angie (Mike) Thede; stepdaughters, Chris and Kelli Shaffner; and grandchildren, Austin, Kyle, Alex and Michaela.

She was preceded in death by her father, Clifford Fisher.
