THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, April 8, 2008.
Gary "Andy" Anderson, 51, entered into rest Sunday, April 6, at home in Story City after a 2 1/2-year battle with melanoma cancer of the jaw. A visitation to celebrate Andy's life will be from 5 to 8 tonight at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 10, at Westwood Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, Minn.
Gary "Andy" Anderson was born in Owatonna, Minn., and raised in St Louis Park, Minn., and spent time in Arizona and California prior to returning to the Midwest and settling in Story City for the last 10 years. He spent much of his life surrounded by sports, whether it be the many years playing slow pitch softball he enjoyed, his career as a radio sportscaster on KQWC in Ames and previously in Webster City. Most importantly, he enjoyed coaching and watching his boys in their many activities. He enjoyed many special times with family and friends fishing and enjoying life at Bear Lake in northern Minnesota. In recent years, he was a car salesman at Gookin Ford in Story City.
He leaves behind his wife, Cathy (Burns) Anderson; two sons, Derek and Dalton; his parents, Mary and Roger Anderson, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; and two sisters, Peg Anderson, of Berkeley, Calif., and Kathy Hedstrom, of Minnetonka, Minn. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, nieces and nephews who also loved him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in remembrance to the Andy Anderson Fund or Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
