Donald Skola, 87, of Ames, died today. Arrangements are pending with Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Donald Skola, 87, of Ames, died Thursday, April 3, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Ascension Lutheran Church in Ames.

Donald Skola was born Feb. 2, 1921, in Slater, to Tom and Celia (Hagem) Skola. He served as a Tech 5 in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed by the city of Ames for 40 years as a lineman for Ames City Electric. He was active in the Ames community for nearly 63 years as a member of Ascension Lutheran Church, Elks Lodge, American Legion and Moose Lodge. He also enjoyed painting, gardening and bowling.

He is survived by one daughter, Jane (Eldon) Graff, of Rogers, Ark.; one son, Randy Jepsen, of Ames; one sister, Mildred Frantzen, of Omaha, Neb.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five sisters, Christine Logsdon, Maxine Thompson, Alberta Beal, Evelyn Townsend and Dorothy Skola; as well as his beloved wife, Bette.

Adams Funeral Home and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
