Almira J. Holt, 88, of Story City passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 8, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. Burial followed at the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 7 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Soderstrum Funeral Home in Story City.

Almira J. Holt was born April 29, 1919 to James and Millie (Danielson) Olson in Jewell, Iowa. She graduated from Jewell High School and attended Waldorf College where she sang in the choir. Almira also sang for weddings and played the piano. She married George Lee Holt April 25, 1944 in Jewell, Iowa. They farmed near Slater where she was a member at Bethlehem Lutheran Church serving as Sunday school superintendent. They then farmed in the Garner area for many years. They moved to Story City in 1989. Almira was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City. She was also a member of the Sons of Norway, bridge club, and active at the 4-H Extension Office. She especially enjoyed her lady friends these last few years.

Survivors include one son, LeRoy (Mary) Holt of Firestone, Colorado; two daughters, Elaine (Richard) Kolkmann of Bloomington, Minnesota; and Janet (Norm) Trentmann of Urbandale; one brother, Eugene Olson of Jewell; and one sister, Irene Billings of Ames; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Almira was preceded in death by her parents; her husband George; two infant grandsons, Timothy and Anthony Holt; and one brother Melvin Holt.

Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church or Homeward Hospice.
