Alma Irene Thorsbakken, 98, of Story City passed away Sunday, July 31, 2005 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethany Manor Chapel in Story City with Chaplain Sandy Anenson officiating. Burial was at St. Paul's Cemetery, rural Jewell.
Alma Thorsbakken was born Dec. 31, 1906 to parents Albert H.F. and Anna J. (Wilson) Guhl in Vincent, Iowa. The family moved to Jewell in 1920 and she graduated from Jewell High School in 1926. She attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis for one year. She worked in the family restaurant, grocery store, bakery, and meat market until she married Chris Thorsbakken on Sept. 14, 1940 in Jewell. They lived on a farm near Williams until they retired and moved to Story City in 1968. Chris passed away Feb. 12, 1981. Alma entered Bethany Manor on Sept. 13, 1993. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church of rural Radcliffe.
Survivors include a sister, Lillian Guhl of Story City; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Guhl of Jewell; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Emma Isvik and Mildred Haggen; and many nieces and nephews.
