Naomi Jans, a longtime rural Gilbert resident, died Monday, Jan. 28, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Funeral services are pending at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care.

Naomi Jans, 96, longtime rural Gilbert resident, died Monday, Jan. 28, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Gilbert Lutheran Church in Gilbert. Burial will be in South St. Petri Cemetery in rural Story City.

Visitation will be from noon until time of service Saturday, Feb. 2, at the church.

G. "Naomi" Jans was born March 27, 1911, on the Jacobson Century Farm near Gilbert, to Nels and Linda (Anderson) Jacobson. She was baptized and confirmed in the St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City. She graduated from Gilbert High School. She attended Iowa State College and transferred to Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) where she graduated in 1932.

She was employed in several department stores in Ames, including Fair Store, Tildens and Younkers, and at the Union Story Trust and Savings Bank (now US Bank).

She married Klaus Jans Feb. 10, 1953, at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. They moved to the Jacobson Century Farm near Gilbert and lived there until August 1998 when they moved to an apartment in Ames. In 1999, she moved to Bickford Cottage, which became her home.

She was a member of Gilbert Lutheran Church. She was active in the Martha Circle, served as church treasurer for a number of years and also taught Sunday school.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Klaus; her parents; and a brother and sister who died in infancy.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the church.

Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care is assisting the family.
