Lois Heins, age 74, of Ames, died Oct. 18, 2007, at the Story County Hospital Long Term Care in Nevada, Iowa where she had been a resident for a month and a half. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at the Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames where Pastor Linda Butler officiated. Burial was in the Gilbert Cemetery in Gilbert.

Lois was born in Harrison Township in Boone County near Mackey on July 11, 1933, the daughter of James and Edna (Knight) Turner. She grew up near Mackey and graduated from Story City High School in 1952. Lois worked as a telephone operator in Boone and Ames for 10 years until 1962. On Nov. 25, 1962, she married Paul Heins in Mackey. The couple moved to Ames. In earlier years, she was a member of the Mackey United Methodist Church. She presently was a member of the Collegiate United Methodist Church in Ames, the Pioneer Club, and the Story County Genealogy Club. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, canning, needlework, and cooking. She loved family reunions and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Lois is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Wilma Miskell, and a stillborn sister.

She is survived by her husband, Paul of Ames; a son, Paul "Stacy" Heins and wife, Sonia of Gilbert; two daughters, Lori McDonald and husband Steve of Nevada and Barbara Meiners and husband Frank of Ames; five grandchildren, Tyler McDonald, Wyatt Heins, Walker Heins, Alex Meiners, and Trevor Meiners; two brothers, James Turner and wife Bev of Gilbert and Robert Turner and wife, Mary of Story City; a sister, Mary Jacobson and husband, Alan of Stuart, Florida; and a brother-in-law, Kermit Miskell of Story City.

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.

Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall in Boone was in charge of arrangements. Online condolences and a guestbook are available at the website www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
