OBITUARY

LOUIS WALTERS, RESIDENT OF RHODES COMMUNITY FOR 40 YEARS, DIES

Louis H. Walters, 77, died at 11:45 p.m. Thursday at his home in Marshalltown. He had been ill four weeks of pneumonia.

Mr. Walters was born August 17, 1871, in Marietta township, the son of Henry Walters Sr. and Mary Hotopp Walters. When a boy the family moved to a farm south of State Center where he lived until his marriage in 1899 to Minnie C. Papenbert, at State Center.

The couple established a home in eastern Story County and lived there about 40 years. They moved to Marshalltown in 1943, and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary February 8th of this year.

Deceased was a member of Redeemer Lutheran church of Marshalltown.

SURVIVORS

Surviving besides the widow, are two daughters and three sons, Mrs. Myrtle Wendel of Rhodes; Mrs. Marie Gable of Los Angeles, Calif.; Amos C. of Upland, Calif.; Wilmer F. of Cedar Rapids, and Warren L. of Chicago, Ill.

Three surviving sisters are Mrs. Mary Shenkle of Sioux Falls, S.D., Mrs. Emma Swinbank of State Center, and Mrs. Ellen Templeman of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, and Willis Baker of State Center, who was reared by Mr. Walters' parents.

SERVICES SUNDAY

Services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Redeemer Lutheran church in Marshalltown in charge of the pastor, the Rev. E. L. Runge. A men's quartette, Verne Ferneau, Russell Steitz, Wm. Belitz and Fred Kossieck, sang. Organist was Richard L. George.

Flower bearers were Mrs. Fred Wittkoop, Mrs. Paul Graves, Miss Clara Fricke and Mrs. G. Wiese. Pall bearers were G. Wiese, Paul Graves, Roy Clemons, H.H. Schaper, Karl Solomon and Herman Wolken. Burial was in Hillside cemetery at State Center. Many friends from Rhodes attended the services.
