TRI COUNTY TIMES, Story County, Iowa, Thursday, November 1, 2007.
C. Verlynn Beal passed away of leukemia at home surrounded by his family on Wednesday. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, October 27, at the First Christian Church in Adel with burial at the Brethren Cemetery in Maxwell. Friends may call after noon Friday at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel where family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with prayer service at 7:00 PM.
Verlynn was born January 25, 1930, to Roy C. and Bertha Beal of Maxwell. He graduated from Maxwell High School in 1948 and served in the U.S. Army in Japan from 1951 to 1953 during the Korean War. During this time he was awarded the Soldier's Medal for heroism. Verlynn married Margaret Cushing of Van Meter in 1955. They are the parents of Bruce (Deb) of Waukee, Patricia (Larry) Snyder of Waukee, and Jeffrey (Mari) of Urbandale. Their grandchildren are James (Karen), Michael and Jessica Beal, Lauren and Joshua Beal and Lacey Snyder. He has one great grandson, Zander Beal; two step-grandsons, T.C. (Janet) Snyder and Travis (Shawn) Snyder; two step-great grandchildren, Riata and Colton. He is also survived by one cousin, two sisters-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Verlynn was an Iowa State Trooper for 26 years and later worked as a security officer at the Federal Courthouse in Des Moines. More recently he had worked for McCalley Funeral Home in Adel. Verlynn was a member of the Adel First Christian Church and a long time choir member and soloist. He had been a member of the Pride of Iowa Barbershop Chorus since 1986 and belonged to the Adel American Legion.
