Grant John Quam, 91, of Ames, died Saturday, Oct. 27, at Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, at Chet Ryan Mortuary and Cremation Services, 708 Fifth St., in Nevada, with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial will be in Roland Cemetery following the luncheon.
Grant John Quam was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Roland, to John and Amanda (Swenson) Quam. He was a graduate of Roland High School and attended Iowa State University. He also graduated from American Business Institute in Des Moines and Diesel Engineering School in Los Angeles. He married Betty Althan Waugh April 11, 1941, in Glendale, Calif. He was a real estate entrepreneur. He was a member of numerous car clubs as he was an avid classic and antique car collector of all types. He also enjoyed music and traveling.
He is survived by his wife, Betty A. Quam, of Ames; three sons, John (Susan) Quam, of Montara, Calif., Jim Quam, of Upland, Calif., and Jerry (Linda) Quam, of Fairview, Texas; one daughter, Marilyn Trow, of Soquel, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Roy and Earl Quam; and four sisters, Frances Moe, Lillian Kubias, Rose Quam and Lolly Osborne.
A memorial fund has been established in Grant's name.
