AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, October 3, 2007.

March 31, 1956-Oct. 1, 2007

Joy Denise Kraus, 51, of Boone and formerly of Ames, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Oct. 1, from Kavanagh House in Des Moines. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone, with Rev. Jack Becker officiating. Burial will be in Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport.

Joy Kraus was born March 31, 1956, in Boone, the daughter of Michael "Mick" and Joyce (Bollenbaugh) Becker. She graduated from Ames High School in 1974. She received a nursing degree from Des Moines Area Community College in Boone. She married Larry Choat June 7, 1975, in Ames and resided in the Ames area. The couple later divorced. She worked at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, where she was a pediatric nurse for many years. She also liked antiques and owned and operated Shakespeare's Treasures in Stratford.

She is survived by one son, Adam Choat, of Des Moines; two daughters, Abbie Clark and husband, Larry, of Stratford, and Andrea Smiley and husband, Aaron, of Boone; her mother, Joyce Anderson and husband, Walt, of Ames; one brother, Paul Becker and wife, Melissa, of Boone; her grandmother, Juanita Munson, of Kissee Mills, Mo.; four grandchildren, Savannah, Jonathan, Ashlyn and Dakota; two nephews, Andrew and Brandon Becker; and aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her father, Mick Becker; her paternal grandparents; and her maternal grandfather.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, at Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall streets in Boone. The family will be present from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the family to be used at its discretion.
