THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Tuesday, September 25, 2007.

Robert E. Rullestad, 74, of Grimes, died Wednesday, Sept. 19, at home. Graveside services with military rites were Monday, Sept. 24, at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Robert E. Rullestad was born in Huxley and had lived in Nevada, Ankeny and Des Moines until recently moving to Grimes. He served on active duty with the U.S. Army from April 1953 to April 1955. He later served in the Iowa Air National Guard. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 663 in Urbandale and served two terms as post commander. He worked for Tones Spices until his retirement. He was a past Boy Scout Master and member of the Toastmasters. While living in Nevada, he was an active member and held many offices of the Masonic Lodge No. 99. He was active in the Nevada Jaycees, holding numerous offices including president of the local chapter. He later served as a regional and state vice president of the Iowa Jaycees. He also served on the Polk County Council of the American Legion.

He will be missed by his wife, JoAnn Rullestad, of Des Moines; three sons, Steven (Diane), of Runnells, Scott (Pam), of Clive, and Shelley, of Cortez, Colo.; two brothers, Laverne (Linda), of Nevada, and Richard (Bernadine), of Urbandale; one sister, Marjorie (Arlin) Sheldahl, of Huxley; six grandchildren, Kasey, Korey, Justin, Jill, Elizabeth and Thomas; his mother, Agnes Rullestad, of Huxley; stepchildren, Larry (Donna) Bryant, Gary Bryant, Steve (Kim) Bryant, Deanna (Jeff) Gilbert and Gala McCreary; 11 step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Rullestad; and daughter-in-law, Rhonda Rullestad.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Post No. 663.

Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd., Clive, was in charge of arrangements.
