Michael "Mick" Meneough, 67, of Nevada, died Sunday, Sept. 23, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Nevada. Burial will be in Alden Cemetery.
Michael "Mick" Meneough was born Dec. 13, 1939, in Des Moines, to Paul "Joe" and Mary (Pink) Meneough.
He served with the Army National Guard for six years. He retired from Iowa Electric where he was employed as an electric lineman.
He was a 20-year member of the American Legion in Nevada and Ames; founder of the Patriotic Council in 1987, chief of staff since 1994; commander of the S.A.L.; Nevada Fire Fighters, past president of the Nevada Jaycees; Nevada Cyclone Club; and had worked with the Story County Fair board, donating materials and his time. He loved to travel. He loved his grandchildren, the outdoors and being with his family and friends. He loved all sports, especially Notre Dame football.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Meneough, of Nevada; two sons, Matthew (Laurie) Meneough, of Norwalk, and Patrick (Julie) Meneough, of Manilla; one brother, John (Romona) Meneough, of Ormond Beach, Fla.; and one sister, Judy (Donn) Simonson, of Fullerton, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Michelle Lynn, in infancy.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight, with a Christian vigil service at 7 p.m., at Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.
Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada is in charge of arrangements.
