Sept. 5, 1919-Sept. 6, 2007

Verda Pearl Rhodes, 88, of Zearing, died Thursday, Sept. 6, at Colonial Manor in Zearing. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11, at Zearing Christian Church. Burial will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing.

Verda Pearl Rhodes was born Sept. 5, 1919, in Zearing, to Louis and Pearl (Moore) Lutz. She graduated from Zearing High School in 1937. She married Roy Rhodes June 22, 1939, in Bethany, Mo. She was a bookkeeper for 20 years at Heart of Iowa Co-op in Zearing, retiring in 1982.

She was a member of Zearing Christian Church, Zearing American Legion Auxiliary Unit 116 and Zearing Town and Country Club.

Survivors include two sons, Larry (Florence) Rhodes, of rural Zearing, and Michael (Judy) Rhodes, of Nevada; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three brothers, John (Velma) Lutz, of Cedar Rapids, Ronald Lutz, of Ocala, Fla., and Glenn (Beverly) Lutz, of Ocala, Fla., and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy on April 4, 1977; three sisters, Lucille Shull, Audrey Cook and Darlene Scarborough; one daughter-in-law, Linda Wallace Rhodes; and one great-grandson.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Zearing Christian Church.

Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing is handling the arrangements.
