THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Friday, September 7, 2007.

Ila Elna Gaston, 88, of Wall Lake, died Saturday, July 21, at her home. She has donated her body for research to the University of Iowa. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake.

Ila Elna Gaston graduated from Thompson School of Cosmetology in Des Moines in 1939. She moved to Ames, where she was employed at Velma and Thelma's Salon. In 1945, she moved to Nevada, where she owned a beauty salon for five years. She returned to Ames and was employed at Carolyn's Salon.

She had open heart surgery in 1976 at the University of Iowa to replace the aorta valve that was damaged when she had rheumatic fever at age 12. She had this same plastic valve for more than 30 years.

Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Wall Lake is in charge of arrangements.
