THE AMES TRIBUNE, Ames, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, September 5, 2007.
Feb. 14, 1918-Aug. 28, 2007
Elda E. Shever, 89, of Moville, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Kingsley. A private family service was Aug. 30 in Kingsley Cemetery. A memorial service was held that afternoon at Kingsley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Elda Elizabeth Shever was born Feb. 14, 1918, in Tracey, Minn., the daughter of Herman and Ella (Ray) Gross. After the death of her young father, the family moved to the Kingsley area. She was a member of Church of the Brethren and was a graduate of the Kingsley school system.
She married Darrell H. Shever Feb. 1, 1940. They farmed with their children, Kay and Stanley, in the Pierson area. The Shevers retired and moved to Moville in December 1979. They enjoyed traveling and golf; Darrell was most proud of his hole-in-one on the Holstein Golf Course, and Elda said her golfing days were the best years of her life.
She will be lovingly remembered by one daughter, Kay Shever, of Ankeny; granddaughter, Shana Schack and her husband, Kevin, and 3-year-old great-granddaughter, Nova Rae Schack, of Frankfort, Ky.; two brothers, Vernon Gross, and Dana Vannorsdel and his wife, Shirley, of Kingsley; one stepsister, Thelma Bainbridge, of Kingsley; and two stepsisters-in-law, Irene Vannorsdel, of Sioux City, and Bernice Vannorsdel, of Kingsley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Darrell, in October 1990; one son, Stanley Ray, in April 1973; one sister, Helen Page; one brother, Claude Gross; and an infant sister, Dorothy.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the staffs of the Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center and Hospice of Siouxland for their loving care, concern and comfort given these past few weeks.
