Marguerite Collins, 89, formerly of Ames, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Arrangements are pending for a visitation Friday, Aug. 31, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames and services Saturday, Sept. 1.

Marguerite K. Collins, 89, formerly of Ames and Marshalltown, died Tuesday, Aug. 28, at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames with Pastor Lynn Elrod officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. A lunch will be served at noon prior to the service.
Marguerite K. Collins was born Feb. 26, 1918, in Harvard, Ill., to Daniel and Mable (White) Danielson. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1936. She married Wendell Collins in 1941 and moved to Riverside where he taught school and coached.
They returned to Marshalltown and lived there until 1965 when they moved to Ames. She had been employed in Marshalltown at the Marshalltown Trowel Company, Marshall County Courthouse and Collins Engineering. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, and she sang in the choir. She enjoyed playing her piano and performed gospel music at KFJB radio station in Marshalltown. She loved her grandchildren and loved spending time with them. She always could be counted on to be in the audience of their school events and horse shows.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon "KC" (Don) Hummel, of Elk Horn; two grandchildren, Heather (Shawn) Murphy, of Hubbard, and Justin (Amy) Hummel, of Abilene, Texas; and three great-grandchildren, Bailey, Cade and Ella Murphy.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband in 2000.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p. m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
Memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed to various charities.
