Doris Schaeffer, 86, of Ames, Iowa, died Friday, August 17, 2007 at Rolling Green Village in Nevada, Iowa.

Doris was born June 9, 1921 in Gilliam, Missouri, the daughter of Louis and Frances (Meyer) Borges. She graduated from Gilliam High School in 1939.

Doris was united in marriage to Ernest M. Schaeffer on February 18, 1952 in Slater, Missouri. Ernest preceded Doris in death on June 5, 2004. Doris was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and canning. She loved her family, grandchildren and great granddaughter. Doris was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Ames.

Doris is survived by 3 children: Kathy (John) Romitti of Madrid, Iowa, Ernest L. Schaeffer of Ames, Iowa, JoAnn (Randal) Kalkwarf of Roland, Iowa; 4 grandchildren: Melissa Kalkwarf, Kristina Kalkwarf, Jacob Kalkwarf, Kaitlyn Romitti; a great-granddaughter: Emily Elizabeth Kalkwarf; and a brother: Louis Borges of Marshall, Missouri.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; 7 sisters and a brother.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Ames. Burial was in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Nevada, Iowa.

A Christian Vigil Service was held Tuesday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada. Visitation followed the Vigil Service.

The Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Nevada is handling arrangements.
