Randy S. Merrick, the son of Elaine Griffy and Rudy Espanosa, was born on Oct. 30, 1962 in Santa Anna, California. He graduated from Roland-Story High School in Story City in 1981.

Randy was united in marriage to Lisa L. White on Oct. 19, 1996 in Colfax. They lived in Cambridge prior to moving to Newton in August of 2005. Randy had worked at Firestone as a tire builder for 11 1/2 years. He enjoyed trail riding, hunting, fishing, camping, and scouting with his son, Jerod. Randy was also an avid reader. he was a loving husband, dad, son, brother and friend.

Randy died at his home in Newton on Monday, May 22, 2006, at the age of 43. Services were held Friday, May 26 at 2 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

Those left to honor Randy's memory are his wife, Lisa Merrick of Newton; son, Jerod Merrick of Newton; daughter, Michele Merrick of Des Moines; foster parents, Wendell and Darlene Patterson of Story City; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jim and Margaret Cobbs; two brothers, Bob Baily of Nebraska and Rick Merrick of New Mexico; and his aunt, Lavaughn Dredge of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
