Ruth Ringgenberg Matson, 85, died Tuesday, July 10, at her residence in Northcrest Retirement Community in Ames. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, at First United Methodist Church in Ames.
Ruth Matson was born in Ames to Carl and Eloise (Minkler) Ringgenberg. She grew up on a farm just south of the ISU campus. She graduated from Ames High School and Iowa State College then taught at Milford Township School until she married Randall Matson in 1944. She was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture until she retired in 1987. She was a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in Ames.
She is survived by one son, Lynn Matson and daughter-in-law, Lois, of Loveland, Colo.; one grandson, Garrett Matson, of Oskaloosa; one granddaughter, Laurie Muller and husband, Andrew, of Greeley, Colo.; one great-grandson, Kalen Muller, of Greeley, Colo.; one brother, Robert Ringgenberg, of Ames; one daughter-in-law, Barb Matson Wandling, of Ames; brother-in-law, Max Patrick, of Santa Fe, N.M.; sister-in-law, June Sams, of Whitten; and brothers-in-law, Paul Maxheimer and Lee Maxheimer, of Clarion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one son, Lee Randall Matson; and two sisters, Dorothy Ringgenberg and Marilyn Patrick.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church or Northcrest Retirement Community.
Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting Ruth's family.
