George Jones, 72, died Thursday, May 24. Services are pending with Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.

June 6, 1934 - May 24, 2007

George L. Jones, 72, of Ames, died Thursday, May 24, at his home following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will follow in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

George Jones was born June 6, 1934, in Sheffield, to George M. and Clara (Scott) Jones. He was raised in Ames. He married Joyce Percy June 7, 1954. He and his brother, Roger, were partners in Jones Bros. Concrete Inc. for over 50 years. He loved his family and enjoyed outdoor activities.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Jones, of Ankeny; one son, Steven W. (Dawn) Jones, of Ankeny; three daughters, Linda (Pat) Martin, of Des Moines, Deanne (Shane) Carman, of Nevada, and Kristine (Scott) Garrett, of Winterset; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Roger (Dorothy) Jones, of Ames, and Larry (Jayanne) Jones, of Nevada; and one sister, Joyce Hatfield, of Ames.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald and Clarence "Buster;" and sister, Pauline Jones.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Monday, May 28, at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames.
