Edna Arthama Searcy, age 86, of Slater went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 22, 2007. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 25, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at Slater Baptist Church in Slater. Pastor Don Michaelsen officiated.
Edna was born June 11, 1920, to Bert and Carrie (Piatt) Mangel in Mineral Wells TX. Raised in a Christian home, she placed her trust in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior as a young girl. Edna married Merton R. Searcy on February 3, 1946 in Abilene TX. They moved to Sheldahl in 1958 and to Slater in 1984. Edna and Merton are charter members of Slater Baptist Church where Edna was involved in teaching Sunday school, Awanas and the Ladies Missionary Fellowship.
Her husband, Merton Searcy of Slater; one son, David Searcy of Slater; 4 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren survive her. Other family members include: a niece, Nita Holstine of Hawley TX; and three sisters-in-law, Corrinne Johnson of Des Moines, Maxine Becthel of Des Moines and Georgia Hammond of Tulare CA.
Her daughter, Karen Carroll; and two sisters, Dorothy Emmerson and Mildred Jones, preceded her in death.
The family received friends 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at Soderstrum-Riis Funeral Home in Slater. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Israel Family Hospice of Ames.
