Eric Solomon Thompson, 24, died in his sleep Saturday, March 24. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 31, at Friendship Baptist Church, 2400 Mortensen Parkway in Ames, with the Rev. Isaac Gentry officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Eric Solomon Thompson was born Nov. 14, 1982, to Rickey and Cheryl Thompson. He started running at about 10 months old and never stopped. He was a natural athlete and an endless source of pride and joy to his family. He was a 2001 graduate of Ames High School. He married Brandee Marie Graham April 7, 2001. He attended Ellsworth Community College one year before joining the U.S. Air Force. He served 3 1/2 years in Albuquerque, N.M. During that time, he voluntarily served his country in Iraq. He received an honorable discharge from the USAF in April 2006. He enrolled at Iowa State University after returning home.
His family was his top priority. He was an excellent father, husband, son, brother and grandson. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of six years, Brandee; one son, Daunte; two daughters, Dezarae and Destinee; his parents, Rickey and Cheryl Thompson; four brothers, Rickey Jr., Ronnie, Corey and Aaron; one sister, Autumn; grandparents, George and Patty Muzzey; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Eric Thompson's visitation/wake and funeral services.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 30, at Friendship Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, a trust fund for Eric's three children has been set up at ACE Community Credit Union.
Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting the family.
