Berwyn McCaskey, 79, of Ames, died today at Green Hills Health Care Center. Services are pending for Friday morning, March 23, at Stevens Memorial Chapel.

Berwyn "Bill" E. McCaskey, 79, of Ames, died Wednesday, March 21, at Green Hills Health Care Center in Ames. A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, March 23, at Heartland Baptist Church, 3504 Grand Ave., in Ames, with burial to follow in Gilbert Cemetery.

Bill McCaskey was born Aug. 12, 1927, in Boone County, to Henry and Eunice (Buttolf) McCaskey. He married Beverly Johnson June 28, 1952, in Stanhope Lutheran Church. He served in the U.S. Army infantry during the Korean War, received a Purple Heart, was on active duty from 1950 to 1952, and was discharged from the reserves in 1957. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 37, and it will provide military rites.

He had been employed by the Iowa State University dairy for 20 years and Hach Company for 22 years. He enjoyed woodworking and carpentry and in later years learned to embroider.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly McCaskey, of Ames; two sons, Jamey (Sue), of Colo, and Jody (Roxane), of Ames; one daughter, Jaylene McCaskey, of Ames; three grandchildren, Kate, Weston and Brent McCaskey; one sister, Donna Bell, of Alabama; and a half brother, Leland Marlow, of Boone.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ascension Lutheran Church New Building Fund or the Heartland Baptist Church Fund.

Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
