Albert "Al" Burkheimer, 79, of Ames and formerly of Boone, died Tuesday, March 13, at Mary Greeley Medical Center. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 16, at First United Methodist Church in Ames, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Albert "Al" Burkheimer was born Jan. 30, 1928, in Lorimor, to Willard and Fern (Means) Burkheimer. He married Marilyn Herkelman Sept. 7, 1947. He had been employed by Quinn Machinery in Boone for 45 years. He loved people, reading, being outdoors and doing carpentry work.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Ames; two sons, Michael (Geri), of Collinsville, Ill., and Dennis (Marlene), of Ames; grandchildren, Brian (Erica), of Shakopee, Minn., Chris (Elizabeth), of Montpelier, Vt., Kevin (Marcella), of Ames, Angela Plummer, of Waukee, and Matheo Sinoracki, of Atlanta; two great grandsons, Brady and Brett; one brother, Ivan, of Mason City; and one sister, Beverely (Laverne) Tibben, of Stuart.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marceline Powell.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Story County Red Cross or the American Lung Association.
Stevens Memorial Chapel is assisting Albert's family.
