Doris Mae Brodie, 92 of Story City died on Sunday, March 4, 2007 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. on Thursday, March 8 at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada with Pastor Steve Williams officiating. A 1:00 P.M. burial at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery will be held following the luncheon. Visitation was held on Wednesday at Chet Ryan Mortuary. Memorials can be given to the Chaplaincy Endowment Fund at Bethany Manor in Story City or the First United Methodist Church in Nevada.

Doris was born on September 6, 1914 to Frank Montgomery and Dora (Smith) Frey. She was delivered by her father at her grandparents farm house between Nevada and Ames. In 1919, her family moved from Milford Township to Jesup, Iowa and in 1921 moved back to a farm in Milford Township. She graduated from Milford Township school in 1932.

Doris married Ralph Brodie on March 16, 1935 in Nevada. She was active with school, church, and community activities, with her family being the most important part of her life. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada and Order of the Eastern Star. Her hobbies were reading, knitting, cards (eat or smell), travel and fishing. They drove their camper from the Yucatan to Alaska. They spent their winters in Texas and in Florida, and most of the summer fishing and enjoying the cabin they built in the 1950's near Wabigoon, Ontario, Canada. The cabin continues to be enjoyed through the third generation of family members.

Doris and Ralph lived on the farm until they retired from farming in 1974 and moved to Nevada. In 2000, she moved to SilverCrest Assisted Living in Ames and in 2005 to Bethany Manor in Story City.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph on April 13, 1983, two sisters, Jean Lee and Marjorie Strother. She is survived by her children, Doradene (Clarion) Thompson of Story City and Duane (Barbara) Brodie of Ames. Her brother Bill (Skip) Frey still lives in Arizona. There are six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with Doris' arrangements.
