Paul P. Pepper, 87, of Ogden, died Saturday, March 3, at Boone County Hospital. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at St. John's Catholic Church in Ogden. Fr. Brian Danner will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Boone. Military graveside rites will be performed by the Boone Veterans Council.
Paul Patrick Pepper was born March 17, 1919, in Gilbert, the son of Dewey and Leona (McCoy) Pepper. He attended country schools and following his education, joined the family farming operation in Story County. He entered the U.S. Army in June 1942, serving in the pacific theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged in January 1946. In 1951, he married, and to this union four daughters were born. He married Charlene Fae Lansing June 25, 1971, in Boone, and his family grew by the addition of five stepchildren. He had been employed by Northern Natural Gas, Ogden Community Schools and Iowa State University. He also owned and operated a well-boring business.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Charlene Pepper, of Ogden; eight children, Mary (Arn) Netten, of Ames, Colleen (Brian) Sparks, of Ames, Becky Stanton, of Boone, Tom (Kathy) Hickcox, of Des Moines, Fran (Rick) Lyons, of Cambridge, Pam Hickcox, of Hixson, Tenn., Fred (Dixie) Hickcox, of Ogden, and Bill Hickcox, of Des Moines; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mildred Neel, of Boone.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Rose Marie Pepper; and one sister, Marjorie Widetick.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
Carson Funeral Home in Ogden is in charge of arrangements.
