John T. McIntosh, 81, entered into eternal rest on Monday, February 12, 2007 at Story County Medical Center, Long Term Care, Nevada, Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 am Friday, February 23, 2007 at Colo United Methodist Church.

John, son of Ralph and Mildred (Granger) McIntosh, was born April 2, 1925, on a farm near Colo, Iowa.

John graduated from the Colo Community High School Community School in 1942. In August 1942, at age 17, he joined the U.S. Navy. John is a veteran of World War II. Serving in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946. He was stationed on the destroyer USS Whitney in the South Pacific.

John was an electrician in the Colo area for 10 years before becoming the Manager of The Colo Telephone Company in 1957. That position he held for 36 years until 1993. Professionally, he served as President of the Rural Iowa Independent Telephone Association. Locally he served as a Colo City Councilman, and Mayor. John also served as President of the Colo Lions Club and Colo Senior Housing.

John was a life long member of the Colo United Methodist Church. His other memberships include the Colo Fire Department, the Colo American Legion Post No. 139 and Colo Lions Club.

John and Patricia Bump were married on June 21, 1952, at the Christian Church, Zearing, Iowa.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Patricia. Two brothers, Glen (Dorothy) of Des Moines, IA, and Jim (Joan) of San Diego, CA. John is also survived by son David (Hiroko) of Bremerton, WA, a daughter Rhonda (Mike) Smith of Ankeny, IA, and a daughter-in-law, Deb McIntosh of Colo, and nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his son, Don McIntosh, 2003, and his parents Ralph and Mildred McIntosh, 1986.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements.
