Delbert LeRoy Lutjen, 76, of Ames, died Sunday, Feb. 11, at home. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Adams Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve McDuff of United Church of Christ-Congregational officiating. Burial will be in Kelley Cemetery.

Delbert LeRoy Lutjen was born Jan. 8, 1931, in Stover, Mo., to Frank M. and Opal E. (Kreisel) Lutjen. He married Izetta Wendt Nov. 20, 1950, in Arkansas. He did plant introduction at Iowa State University for 35 years. He enjoyed woodworking, yard work and gardening.

He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Lutjen, of Ames, Carol West, of Des Moines, and Loretta (Stan) Adams, of Ames; one son, LeRoy (Robyn) Lutjen, of Nevada; one brother, Harold Lutjen, of Lincoln, Mo.; one sister, Luella Cooper, of Kansas City, Kan.; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Izetta, on July 1, 2004; one brother, Amos Lutjen; and one grandson, Zachary Lilland.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, with family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at Adams Funeral Home.
